Weta Digital (named after the New Zealand weta, one of the worlds largest insects) is a digital visual effects company based in Wellington, New Zealand founded by Peter Jackson, Richard Taylor, and Jamie Selkirk in 1993.

The company produce the digital special effects for Heavenly Creatures (movie from 1994 by Peter Jackson). Weta Digital has won Awards such as the Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects: for movies like The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring, King Kong, Avatar, and The Jungle Book.

Weta Digital has also developed several software packages to achieve groundbreaking visual effects. MASSIVE is a a program which can animate huge numbers of agents: independent characters acting according to pre-set rules (used in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy).
